Class & Workshop Descriptions

Below is a description of the classes, seminars, workshops, and private tutoring offered.  To register, click on the “Register” button under the description or you can use our “Class Schedule” link above and select desired courses/dates. Check back regularly as we are always adding classes and workshops, especially for end-of-year exams, AP exams and summer offerings.

This ACT Math Intensive class covers the same material as our standard ACT Math class except it is a much smaller class and is designed for students to ask more questions; it will have a minimum of 2 and maximum of 4 students. Cost $50 for 1.5 hour class. 

Preparation and practice for the science section of the ACT. This is a 1.5 hour group session. Cost $35 for 1.5 hour class. 

ACT Prep 5-Day Intensive Workshop (at Center): Students will receive intense prep in each of the four sections of the ACT (English, math, science, reading) for a total of 20 hours of preparation. The first session will be offered Monday-Friday, July 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 from 9am-1pm each day. The second session (same material) will be offered Monday-Friday, July 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30 from 9am-12pm each day. Cost is $325. These workshops will be held at the Center.

A specialized math class for students who want to focus on the most difficult problems found on the ACT. This class is for ADVANCED math students who want to move quickly and address the more challenging math concepts found on the ACT. Cost is $35 for 1.5 hour class. 

This three-hour class will review the core concepts to prepare a student for ACT reading. Cost is $65. This class will be held at the Center.

This class is an opportunity for students to take a complete ACT in a timed, testing environment to determine areas of strength and weakness on the test. The test will be scored and students will receive a report of their results. Taking this test enables students to get a baseline reading on their skills without having to report the scores to colleges. It also provides an opportunity for students to gauge their progress in preparing for the ACT. We must have a minimum of 10 students in order to offer this practice test. This is a 3.5 hour group session. Cost $45.

An in-depth review of the math concepts and strategies essential for success on the ACT. Students will work through and score at least one ACT math section. Cost is $70 per workshop.

Students will take a math section test from an actual ACT in a timed test environment. The test will be scored and students will provided their results. Teacher will review the problems and answers. This is a two hour session. Cost $35 for 1.5 hour class.

This is a three hour ACT Mini Workshop to prepare middle school students applying for Duke TIP with an overview of the ACT test, covering all four sections, strategies and pacing. Students will receive practice materials. The cost is $65 per workshop.

This class will focus on improving reading skills in areas covered in the reading portion of the ACT test. Students will learn to identify style, tone, organizational structure, and main purpose of ACT writing passages. Students will also practice pacing while working with actual ACT reading passages. Cost is $65 per workshop.

This is a 90 minute ACT Science prep class that is held at the Center. Cost is $35.

Students will work through and discuss a series of science sections from an actual ACT. They will practice reading charts and graphs, as well as pacing on this section of the test. This class will provide a comprehensive review of the ACT science section. Cost is $65 per workshop.

Students will work through one ACT science section with guided instruction and then will take a timed practice test. The test will be scored and students will be given their results. Teacher will review the problems and answers. This is a 2 hour group session. Cost $35 for 1.5 hour class.

ACT Prep Two-Week Workshop (at Center): Students will receive four hours of intense prep in each of the four sections of the ACT (English, math, science, reading) for a total of 16 hours of preparation. This will be offered Monday-Thursday, August 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 11 and 12 from 6-8pm. Cost is $295. This workshop will be held at the Center.

ACT Prep Two-Week Workshop (online): Students will receive four hours of intense prep in each of the four sections of the ACT (English, math, science, reading) for a total of 16 hours of preparation. Classes are Monday-Thursday from 6pm-8pm. The workshop begins October 12 and will be held Monday-Thursday from 6-8pm on October 12, 13, 14, 15, 19, 20, 21, and 22. This workshops will be online. Cost is $295. A zoom link will be sent to the email on file.

At the Center, experienced and successful teachers Mary Katherine Gottstine and Shauna Paedae will be offering (hopefully) a weekly review session to address core concepts of this course and re-teach if necessary. This class will also address any areas where students are having difficulty with comprehension and/or application. Class size is limited. Cost is $50 for two hours.

AP Biology Review will be taught online by Ms. Cheri Stephens. Class will be held Sunday, May 9 from 9am-12pm. Cost is $75.00.

This is a two-hour AP Biology review that will dive deeper into material not covered in the first session, namely evolution, plants and ecology. This will take place ONLINE on May 12 from 6-8pm and will be taught by Ms. Cheri Stephens. Cost is $50.

AP Calculus AB Review for midterm exams. Comprehensive test review/Q and A. This class will be taught in person at the Center on May 2 from 1-4pm. Cost is $75 for three hours.

AP Calculus BC Review (at Creative Learning Academy): Saturday, May 1st from 9am-12pm. Comprehensive test review with Q&A taught by Ms. Paedae. Cost is $75.

This is a two-hour semester exam review for AP Chemistry taught online by Nick Livingston. Sessions will be held from 6-8pm on April 22 (Units 1-4), April 27 (Units 5, 6, 9), May 4 (Units 7 & 8), and May 6 (Q&A). Cost is $50. A Zoom link will be sent to the email on file.

This is a three-hour AP European History review taught by Mr. Michael Jones. This course will be offered on May 2 from 9am-12pm at Creative Learning Academy. Student should enter near the sign that says “gymnasium”. Cost is $75.

This is a two-hour AP Human Geography review session (online) that will include preparation for the writing portions as well. Comprehensive cram review sessions (covering the same material) will be held Sunday, April 25 from 3-5pm  (FULL) and again on Thursday, April 29 from 7-9pm. Sessions will be from 3-5pm. The cost is $50. The Zoom link will be sent to the email on file.

AP Language & Composition Review taught by Mr. Killam. Class will be held Saturday, May 1 from 9am-12pm. Cost is $75.00.

A class designed to prepare students to take the AP Literature & Composition Exam. The first session (April 24) will cover the multiple choice section of the AP exam, with special emphasis on breaking down questions and recognizing literary terminology. The second session (May 1) will be on poetry, prose and free responses. Students will receive additional practice materials as well as handouts to help them prepare for the exam. Each session is $75.

This is a review for AP Macroeconomics. It will be taught online by Clint Sutton. Sessions will be held from 7-9pm on Thursday, April 8 - Units 1 through 3 and Thursday, April 22 - Units 4- 6. A Zoom link will be sent to the email on file.

This is a three-hour AP Statistics Review by Ms. Paedae. It will be held at Creative Learning Academy on May 1 from 1-4pm. Cost is $75.

These are 3 hour AP US History Reviews taught by Ms. Amy Parker at the Center. Students can sign up for any or all. Cost is $75 per session. You will sign up for each session individually.

This is a two-hour AP World History review session (online) that will include preparation for the DBQ. The sessions, taught by Ms. Tracy Brown, will progress through the units. Remaining sessions will be held as follows: Jan 10 (Units 5, 6), Jan 31 (Units 7, 8), Feb 14 (SAQ/LEQ writing workshop), Feb 28 (DBQ Writing Workshop), Mar 14 (Asia/India Focus),

Mar 28 (Africa/Middle East Focus), April 11 (Americas/Europe/Caribbean Focus), April 25 (Cram Session; 9:30-11:30 or 12-2 - same material in each class). The cost is $50. The Zoom link will be sent to the email on file.

A class for 9th grade students to prepare them for the testing process. Class focuses on vocabulary development and core test-taking skills presented in a creative and affirming environment. This is a 1.5 hour group session. Cost $35 per class.

Terry Benson and Renee Bookout present this workshop to provide 8th grade students and their parents with information about how to maximize their potential for the college admissions process. Information regarding high school course selection, ACT/SAT/PSAT/SATII scores, the admissions process, applications, high school resume, essays, interviews, scholarships, Bright Futures and financial aid are some of the topics included in this workshop.

This is a college counseling private session with Renee Bookout. Session will include review of student's high school progress and creation of a plan for school year/summers, discussion as to what student can do to make sure he/she is on the right track to maximize his/her potential, and an overview of college search/application process. Parents are encouraged and welcome to attend with student. Ideal for students in 8th (end of year), 9th, 10th and 11th grade. Resume and College Essay Workshop: A workshop for seniors to prepare one complete edited essay for college applications. Students will also receive an overview on the college application process. This workshop will be taught by several teachers, including Renee Bookout and Terry Benson; other teachers may be brought in for editing. The teachers will review and edit the student's resume, brainstorm essay prompt, and review and edit student's essay. Students must bring a laptop computer to participate in this class. Enrolled students will be provided a resume template and must submit a draft resume several days prior to first day of workshop. Session 1 (Full) is June 9-12 (Wednesday-Saturday) from 1-5pm each day. Session 2 (Full) is June 13-16 (Sunday-Wednesday) from 3-7pm each day. Session 3 (Full) is June 27-30 (Sunday-Wednesday) from 1-5pm each day. Session 4 (Full) is July 5-8 (Monday-Thursday) from 9am-1pm each day. Session 5 July 17-20 (Full) (Saturday-Tuesday) from 11am-3pm each day. Session 6 (Full) July 18-July 21 (Sunday-Wednesday) from 4-8pm each day. Session 7 (space available) July 22-25 from 2pm-6pm each day. Cost is $300.

This is a three hour introduction to AP US History taught by Ms. Amy Parker. This class will be held online on August 22 from 9am-12pm. The cost is $65. A zoom link will be sent to the email on file.

Introduction to sorority recruitment is a small group workshop designed for girls who are seniors in high school and are interested in sorority recruitment for the 2021-2022 school year. The workshop will cover topics such as what the sorority recruitment process is like, how to get recommendation letters, how to craft a recruitment resume, social media, and more. This 1.5 hour workshop will be taught by Brook Ostrander, a graduate of the University of Alabama. Brook was the former recruitment chairman for her Panhellenic sorority and had served as a Panhellenic Delegate assistant. Through working with the National Panhellenic Association, Brook is knowledgeable about sorority recruitment in different chapters at universities across the country. Each session will cover the same material. Sessions are being offered at $45 on the following dates: Sunday, April 18, April 25 and May 2. This is a two day introduction to AP Human Geography to introduce the students to the subject matter and the manner in which to approach an AP course. This will be taught online by Clint Sutton. Cost for the two day workshop is $75. This will be held online on August 1 and 2 from 2-4pm.

Study Skills and Strategies is a class in which students will be taught skills to help them gain and use information effectively. Students will leave the class with data proven strategies to: improve retention and recall of information, maximize study time by practicing improved time management, and streamline resources with improved organizational approaches. Students will learn to self-monitor their study habits to discern the most effective strategies for their learning style. This class will be taught at the Center. Max 4 students. Cost is $65.

This is a one hour session to work on graduate school applications/personal statements/experiences. Renee has worked with students applying to graduate programs in the fields of medicine, dental, law, business, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy and others. Cost is $75 an hour.

This is a class designed for 9th grade students to introduce them to the different standardized tests in their high school career, including PSAT, SAT and ACT. Students will work with work on test taking strategies and problems in math, science, reading and English. In addition to valuable early exposure and experience with the standardized tests, these classes will enhance the students skills in the applied subject areas and offer enrichment to their traditional class schedules. Students are encouraged to attend weekly for consistency, but it is not required. Cost is $35 for 1.5 hours. This class is taught at the Center.

This is a two-hour geometry review to help students prepare for the End of Course exam. This class will be taught by Ms. Stephanie Duffy and held at the Center on May 6 from 3:45-5:45. Cost is $50.

This is a five-day, 15-hour PSAT intensive prep course designed for rising 11th and 10th graders who plan to take the PSAT in October. This course will be held at the Center Monday through Friday on June 28-July 2nd from 9am-12pm. A second course (same material) will be held at the Center Sunday through Thursday on July 11-July 15 from 5pm-8pm. Cost is $295.

This is an End of Course Exam Review for Algebra I. It will be taught by Ms. Spillers. These are two-day workshops and there are two different sessions (same material taught in session 1 and 2). This multi-day introduction to AP/IB Human Geography workshop will be taught by Ms. Tracy Brown. Class will be total of 5 hours, August 1st and 2nd from 6pm-8:30pm. Cost is $75.

Vocabulary is the foundation for comprehension. This workshop will help students learn vocabulary words and how to use them effectively in a sentence. This workshop will be helpful for all high school students (rising 9th-12th graders), especially those preparing to take the ACT or SAT. This is a two-day workshop that will meet July 25 and 26. Cost is $100.
