Class & Workshop Descriptions

Below is a description of the classes, seminars, workshops, and private tutoring offered.  To register, click on the “Register” button under the description or you can use our “Class Schedule” link above and select desired courses/dates. Check back regularly as we are always adding classes and workshops, especially for end-of-year exams, AP exams and summer offerings.

  • 90 minutes of ACT Math Instruction
  • Minimum of 2 and maximum of 5 students.

ACT Prep Weekly Sunday Workshop

Equal hours of intense prep in each of the four sections (English, math, science, reading)

  • December 9 ACT test, classes begin Sunday, October 29 and finish December 3 from 1:00-4:00pm (no class  November 26).
  • February 10 ACT test, classes begin Sunday, January 7 and finish February 4 from 12:00-3:00pm
  • April 13 ACT test, classes begin Sunday, February 25 and finish April 7 (no class Easter Sunday, 3/31), from 1-3:30pm.

ACT Prep Tuesdays and Thursdays Workshop: Students will receive four hours of intense prep in each of the four sections of the ACT (English, math, science, reading) for a total of 16 hours of preparation. Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8pm. Cost is $295.Prep for the June 13 ACT begins May 12th. Workshop dates are as follows:

May 12, 14, 19, 21, 26, 28, June 2 and 4. This workshop will be taught in person at the Center.

OPTIONAL: Workshop attendees get a discount on the practice tests offered the following week. Workshop attendees can register (by phone only) for all three practice tests offered the following week for $75 total (a savings of $30).

  • 2-Hour ACT Reading Prep
  • $75

A specialized math class for students who want to focus on the most difficult problems found on the ACT. This class is for ADVANCED math students who want to move quickly and address the more challenging math concepts found on the ACT. Cost is $50 for 1.5 hour class.

This three-hour class will review the core concepts to prepare a student for ACT reading. Cost is $65. This class will be held at the Center.

This class will be a three hour overview of the grammar rules and strategies utilized on the English section of the ACT. Students will also participate in teacher directed practice using actual ACT English sections from the tests. The cost is $90 per workshop.

This ACT English Intensive class covers the same material as our standard ACT English class except it is a much smaller class and is designed for students to ask more questions; it will have a minimum of 2 and maximum of 5 students. Cost $50 for 1.5 hour class.

ACT Prep Four-Week Workshop (at Creative Learning Academy) to prepare for June ACT: Students will receive four hours of intense prep in each of the four sections of the ACT (English, math, science, reading) for a total of 16 hours of preparation. Classes will be held on Mondays/Wednesdays (except for Memorial Day, when it will be on a Tuesday). Class scheduled is May 17, 19, 24, 26, June 1 (Tuesday), 2, 7, and 9 from 5:30-7:30pm. Cost is $295.

ACT Prep Four-Week Workshop (at Center)

ACT Prep Four-Week Workshop (online): Students will receive four hours of intense prep in each of the four sections of the ACT (English, math, science, reading) for a total of 16 hours of preparation. The next session in preparation for June 12 test begins May 17th and will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00-8:00pm on May 17, 19, 24, 26, June 1 (Tuesday), 2, 7 and 9. There will be an in person (at the Center) and an online version. Cost is $295. This workshop will be held online with a Zoom link sent to the email on file.

This class is an opportunity for students to take a complete ACT in a timed, testing environment to determine areas of strength and weakness on the test. The test will be scored and students will receive a report of their results. Taking this test enables students to get a baseline reading on their skills without having to report the scores to colleges. It also provides an opportunity for students to gauge their progress in preparing for the ACT. We must have a minimum of 10 students in order to offer this practice test. This is a 3.5 hour group session. Cost $50.

This class is designed for students who struggle on the math portion of the ACT, both with concepts and timing. The class will cover the core mathematical concepts students must know to perform well and also will discuss strategies and timing. This is a three-hour workshop taught by Ms. Paedae. Cost is $90 per workshop.

This ACT Math Intensive class covers the same material as our standard ACT Math class except it is a much smaller class and is designed for students to ask more questions; it will have a minimum of 2 and maximum of 4 students. Cost $50 for 1.5 hour class. This class is taught at Creative Learning Academy, 3151 Hyde Park Road in Pensacola. Enter through doors marked “gymnasium.”

An in-depth review of the math and science concepts and strategies essential for success on the ACT. Students will work through and score an ACT math and a science section. Cost is $90 per workshop.

This is a three hour ACT Mini Workshop to prepare middle school students applying for Duke TIP with an overview of the ACT test, covering all four sections, strategies and pacing. Students will receive practice materials. The cost is $65 per workshop.

This class will focus on improving reading skills in areas covered in the reading portion of the ACT test. Students will learn to identify style, tone, organizational structure, and main purpose of ACT writing passages. Students will also practice pacing while working with actual ACT reading passages. Cost is $90 per workshop.

Students will work through and discuss a series of science sections from an actual ACT. They will practice reading charts and graphs, as well as pacing on this section of the test. This class will provide a comprehensive review of the ACT science section. Cost is $90 per workshop.

This ACT Science Intensive class covers the same material as our standard ACT Science class except it is a much smaller class and is designed for students to ask more questions; it will have a minimum of 2 and maximum of 5 students. Cost $50 for 1.5 hour class.

Classes are Monday-Thursday from 6pm-8pm. This will be offered August 30 and will be held Monday-Thursday, August 30, 31, September 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, and 9 from 6:00-8:00pm. Cost is $295. This workshops will be ONLINE. Cost is $295. ACT/SAT Math – Get the most from your graphing calculator. This class will give direct instruction on the apps and programs on a Texas Instruments' graphing calculator that are most useful for testing. We will also set up study cards within the calculator for formulas that might be needed. All work follows the rules of use as outlined by ACT and SAT. You must bring your own graphing calculator. Cost is $50.

This is part 1 of AP Human Geography Review covering content relating to agriculture/industry/urbanization.

This is a three-hour cram session for the AP Human Geography Exam. It will preparation for the FRQs. Class is offered Saturday, May 2nd from 12:30-3:30pm and will be co-taught by Ms. Brown and Mr. Sutton. There will be two AP Literature review sessions offered. Both sessions will focus on how to write an effective AP Literature essay, discussion of models, discussion of prompts, but different models and prompts will be used in each session, and in each session they will write an essay on a different prompt. After they write, the class will read a model on the the prompt they wrote on. Cost is $45 per session for two-hour review.

AP Biology Review will be taught online by Ms. Cheri Stephens. Cost is $75.00.

This is an end of year AP Biology review online three hour course taught by Ms. Stevens. Cost is $65. The Zoom link will be sent to the email on file; if preferred, the parent can forward link to student.

This is a two-hour AP Biology review that will dive deeper into material not covered in the first session, namely evolution, plants and ecology. This will be taught by Ms. Cheri Stephens. Cost is $50.

This is a two-hour semester exam review for AP Chemistry taught online by Nick Livingston. Cost is $75. A Zoom link will be sent to the email on file.

Ms. Edie Bidwell will be teaching a two-hour AP Chemistry review to prepare students for the free response questions. Class is offered on May 9 from 1pm-3pm. Cost is $45. The Zoom link will be sent to the email on file; if preferred, the parent can forward link to student.

Mr. Michael Jones will be teaching three sessions of AP European History. Each session will cover different units. Remaining sessions are April 29 and May 6, from 4-6pm. Cost is $45 per session. This three hour class will be offered Saturday, May 16th from 9am-12pm. This three hour AP Literature review class is offered May 7th from 2pm-5pm. Students will annotate and discuss two past AP Prose questions, read and discuss models, and then each student will write a 45 minute timed essay on a past AP question and then discuss strategies and techniques they could have used in approaching this topic. Cost is $65.

This is a review for AP Macroeconomics. It will be taught online by Clint Sutton. A Zoom link will be sent to the email on file.

AP Physics 1 Review: Classes will cover units 1-7 in the AP Physics 1 course curriculum covered by the modified AP exam. Each class will begin with a unit overview, followed by a series of example problems similar to the multiple choice questions seen on the exam. Classes held Friday, May 1-Units 1, 2 and 3; Friday, May 8-Units 4, 5, 6 and 7. Cost is $45 per session. You will sign up for each session individually. This three hour class will be offered Sunday, May 3rd from 3:30pm-6:30pm. Harry Potter Book Club:

This workshop is an opportunity for students grades 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th to participate in meaningful discussions about the Harry Potter books. Each class will involve discussion questions about specific chapters. Euxie Laibe, a senior at Vanderbilt, will lead these online exchanges and encourage students to engage with the readings and with one another to think analytically and improve their reading skills.

This is a multi-week workshop on Wednesdays from 10:30am-12pm. Students should have read the following chapters prior to the start of class on the particular week:

Week 1, April 8th: Chapters 1-4

Week 2, April 15: Chapters 5-7

Week 3, April 22: Chapters 8-10

Week 4, April 29: Chapters 11-14

Week 5, May 6: Chapters 15-17

Cost is $125 for the workshop.

These classes cover the same content as PSAT Math classes except they are smaller in size; they have a minimum of 2 and maximum of 4 students.
These classes cover the same material as the PSAT Reading classes except they are smaller in size; they will have a minim of 2 and maximum of 4 students.

Terry Benson and Renee Bookout present this workshop to provide 8th grade students and their parents with information about how to maximize their potential for the college admissions process. Information regarding high school course selection, ACT/SAT/PSAT/SATII scores, the admissions process, applications, high school resume, essays, interviews, scholarships, Bright Futures and financial aid are some of the topics included in this workshop.

This workshop is for seniors who are working on their supplemental essays for colleges. This is not a workshop for the main (common application/coalition application) essay. This workshop is only available to students who have completed their main essay with us at the Center as it builds off of that workshop. Students will work with Terry Benson and Renee Bookout. Stay tuned for 2023 dates. Cost is $200.

This is a college counseling private session with Renee Bookout. Session will include review of student's high school progress and creation of a plan for school year/summers, discussion as to what student can do to make sure he/she is on the right track to maximize his/her potential, development of a testing schedule, and an overview of college search/application process. Parents are encouraged and welcome to attend with student. Ideal for students in 8th (end of year), 9th, 10th and 11th grade. For High School Seniors: Private one-hour essay writing/application preparation session with Renee Bookout. Renee can also help with resumes and interviews. Please see Renee's bio under Instructors.   • Students will be provided a resume template and must submit a draft resume prior to first day of workshop
  • Final session (3 days): September 9 (Saturday), September 10 (Sunday), and September 16, 1-5pm each day. Students must attend all days.

A middle school math workshop (for rising 7th and 8th graders) focusing on the fundamental concepts students will encounter in Algebra 1. A series of creative activities and math games will enable students to better understand how to utilize and manipulate numbers as well as encouraging the development of math fluency in the participants. This workshop will be taught by Colin Gold, a graduate of the IB Program, National Merit finalist who will be attending Georgia Tech this fall. This will be offered June 14, 15, 16 from 9-11am. Cost is $150.

This workshop will teach high school students (grades rising 9-12) the fundaments of academic research and writing. This class is particularly helpful for students enrolling in the AP Capstone course or who will work on an extended essay at the IB Program. Laptops required. This three-day course will be held June 27, 28 and 29 from 9am-11am.

This is a three hour introduction to AP US History taught by Ms. Amy Parker. This class will be held online on August 22 from 9am-12pm. The cost is $65. A zoom link will be sent to the email on file.

This is a two-day intro to geometry workshop taught by Ms. Stephanie Duffy. This workshop will be held August 10 and 12 from 3:30-5:30pm. Cost is $75.

This is a two day introduction to AP Human Geography to introduce the students to the subject matter and the manner in which to approach an AP course. This will be taught online by Clint Sutton. Cost for the two day workshop is $75. This will be held online on August 1 and 2 from 2-4pm.

This math study skills class is recommended for students in grades 6-10 who struggle with confidence in their math skills or who are nervous about starting the next level of math. This class will focus on mastery of the math ‘building blocks’ that oftentimes hinder students from grasping new topics. Helping students establish confidence in these foundational concepts is the best way to ensure success in their future courses. Friday, July 28, 9am-12pm. $90.

Study Skills and Strategies is a class in which students will be taught skills to help them gain and use information effectively. Students will leave the class with data proven strategies to: improve retention and recall of information, maximize study time by practicing improved time management, and streamline resources with improved organizational approaches. Students will learn to self-monitor their study habits to discern the most effective strategies for their learning style. This class will be taught at the Center on Thursday, July 27 from 9am-12pm. Max 5 students. Cost is $90.

  • Two-day session to prepare for the Geometry End-of-Course Exam

This is a one hour session to work on graduate school applications/personal statements/experiences. Renee has worked with students applying to graduate programs in the fields of medicine, dental, law, business, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy and others. Cost is $80 an hour.

  • Five-day (15 hour) intensive workshop to review and work on major concepts of Algebra II
  • This workshop is for students who want to solidify their knowledge of Algebra 2 concepts and become better prepared to succeed in pre-calculus.

An introduction to the ACT and standardized test-taking strategies for students who have not attended our prep classes in the past or done so on a very limited basis. Students will receive an overview of strategies and one hour of instruction on each of the four components of the test (English, Math, Reading, Science) by the teachers who specialize in teaching those areas. They will work with and take home practice materials. This course will be held in the Clay Ford meeting room in the main building at the Gulf Breeze Recreation Center. This is a 4 hour group session. SAT Prep Two-Week Workshop (online) for the next SAT. Students will learn strategies to improve their test-taking skills on the SAT. Students will receive instruction in math, reading comprehension, and grammar concepts common to the test. This is an 16 hour group session. Classes will be held Monday-Thursday from 6pm-8pm. Class will be online; a zoom link will be sent to the email on file. Prep for the September test begins September 14 and will be held September 14, 15, 16, 17, 21, 22, 23 and 24. Prep for the November 7 test begins October 26 and will be held October 26, 27, 28, 29, November 2, 3, 4 and 5. Cost is $295.

SAT Prep Sunday Workshop (at Center)

  • Receive instruction in math, reading comprehension, and grammar concepts common to the test
  • November 4 Test prep starts Sunday, September 24 and finishes Sunday, October 29. Classes held from 3:45-5:45pm each Sunday.

This seminar will introduce students to the rigor and approach required to succeed in Advanced Placement (AP) courses. This will be taught by Ms. Amy Parker, who has been teaching AP US History for many years with great success and pass rates. Date summer 2022 TBD. 

This three-hour introduction to AP US History seminar will be taught by Ms. Amy Parker. Summer 2022 date TBD. 

This six-session course will introduce 9th grade students to standardized tests, including the PSAT/SAT/ACT. Students will work on vocabulary, reading comprehension, core math concepts and science. Classes will be on Sundays from 11:30am-1pm on the following dates: March 1, 8, 22, 29, April 5 and 19. Cost for the six-session course is $175.

This is a one-week Intensive Prep for the July 13 ACT. The session will cover all four subject areas: math, science, English and reading. The first session will be held from 9am-12pm, Monday through Friday, July 8-12. We have added a second session on the same days (July 8-12) from 1:00-4:15. Cost is $295.

ACT Prep 5-Day Workshop: Students will receive intense prep in each of the four sections of the ACT (English, math, science, reading) for a total of 15 hours of preparation. This is great preparation for the July ACT test. Cost: $275. Classes will be held July 9-13 from 9am-12pm. You only need to register and pay only for the first day and you will automatically be registered for the remaining days of the course.

A workshop for rising seniors only who are beginning the application process. Students will create a resume, write a college essay and learn tips and tricks for the college applications. Students will also receive an overview on college selection and the application process. Renee Bookout and Terry Benson will assist the students in finalizing their resume, brainstorming on their essay and writing a common/coalition application essay or school-specific essay. Students must bring a laptop computer to class. Cost $260.

End-of-Course Exam for Algebra I Workshop.This two-part class will review, and if necessary, teach all tested standards for the Alegbra I end-of-course (EOC) exam. The first day, Tuesday, will focus on non-calculator problems and the second day, Thursday, will focus on calculator-allowed problems. This comprehensive four-hour preparation should enable your child to have an informed understanding of what is expected of him/her on the test as well as of the concepts to be tested. Please bring a charged tabled or iPad if possible.

Fundamentals of Grammar for Testing for High School Students


This workshop will cover the fundamentals of grammar and writing. We will target the skills covered on standardized testing, including the SAT, PSAT, ACT, and FSA.

The high school session is July 22, 23, and 24 from 4pm-6pm. The cost is $100.

Fundamentals of Grammar for Testing for Middle School Students

This workshop will cover the fundamentals of grammar and writing. We will target the skills covered on standardized testing.

There are two sessions offered for middle school students. The first is July 8 and 9 from 1pm-4pm; the second is July 29 and 30 from 1pm-4pm. The cost is $100.

Have Fun With Middle School Math Workshop will provide instruction, games and activities focused on middle school math and extending the student’s understanding of key mathematical concepts. This is available for rising 6th through 8th graders. There are two sessions offered. Cost is $100.

Session 1: July 10 and 11, 1-4pm.

Session 2: July 31 and August 1, 1pm-4pm. 

This workshop will teach high school students (grades rising 9-12) the fundamentals of academic research and writing. This class is particularly helpful for students enrolling in an AP Capstone course or who will be working on an extended essay at the IB Program. Laptops required. This workshop will be offered June 17, 18, 19 and 20 from 9am-12pm. Cost is $195.

This multi-day introduction to AP/IB Human Geography workshop will be taught by Ms. Tracy Brown. Class will be total of 5 hours, August 1st and 2nd from 6pm-8:30pm. Cost is $75.

The Intro to Geometry Workshop will focus on how the subject of geometry gives visual meaning to arithmetic and algebra. We will begin with the building blocks of geometry, then progress toward the necessary skills needed to be successful in this course. This is a two-day workshop. 2023 dates TBD. Cost is $100. Minimum of 4 students required.

This workshop is for middle school students (rising 6-8th graders) to work on creative writing skills, including poetry and short stories. Laptop suggested. This is a three-day workshop being held on June 25, 26 and 27 from 9am-12pm. Cost is $150.

The Middle School Math Workshop is an opportunity for students to work on math skills and concepts in a fun and educational setting. This workshop meets June 26, 27 and 28 from 9-11am and will be taught by Zach Gaidosh. Cost is $75.

This is a one-week PSAT test preparation workshop offered only to Pensacola Catholic High School students. The course will be held at PCHS. The one-week workshop is offered Monday-Thursday, June 18-21 or July 16-19. The cost is $100 for the one-week workshop. You only need to sign up for the first day of the week of the workshop you prefer and you will be signed up for the rest of the week.

This is a two-week PSAT test preparation workshop offered only to Pensacola Catholic High School students. The course will be held at PCHS. The two-week workshop is offered Monday-Thursday, June 18-21 and July 16-19. The cost is $150 for the two-week workshop. For the two-week workshop, you only need to sign up for the first date (June 18) and you will be automatically enrolled for all of the dates -- June 18-21 and July 16-19.

This two-day workshop is offered for high school students who need additional help in reading strategies for the ACT and SAT. This workshop is designed to improve reading comprehension, fluency, focus and retention. Students will engage in text-based discussion and learn to decode questions, as well as how to eliminate responses. This workshop is taught by Mrs. Hall.

This four-week workshop is designed to help students prepare for the October 6 SAT. It will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-8pm on September 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25, 30 and October 2. Cost is $295.

Vocabulary is the foundation for comprehension. This workshop will help students learn vocabulary words and how to use them effectively in a sentence. This workshop will be helpful for all high school students (rising 9th-12th graders), especially those preparing to take the ACT or SAT. This is a two-day workshop that will meet July 25 and 26. Cost is $100.
