Class & Workshop Descriptions

Below is a description of the classes, seminars, workshops, and private tutoring offered.  To register, click on the “Register” button under the description or you can use our “Class Schedule” link above and select desired courses/dates. Check back regularly as we are always adding classes and workshops, especially for end-of-year exams, AP exams and summer offerings.

These classes are the same as our regular ACT Math classes except it is a much smaller class; it will have a minimum of 2 and maximum of 4 students. Cost $50 per class.

This class will be a three hour overview of the grammar rules and strategies utilized on the English section of the ACT. Students will also participate in teacher directed practice using actual ACT English sections from the tests.

An in-depth review of the math concepts and strategies essential for success on the ACT. Students will work through and score at least one ACT math section.

This class will focus on improving reading skills In areas covered in the reading portion of the ACT test. Students will learn to identify style, tone, organizational structure, and main purpose of ACT writing passages. Students will also practice pacing while working with actual ACT reading Passages.

Students will work through and discuss a series of science sections from an actual ACT. They will practice reading charts and graphs, as well as pacing on this section of the test. This class will provide a comprehensive review of the ACT science section.

This is part 1 of AP Human Geography Review covering content relating to agriculture/industry/urbanization.

A specialized math class for students who want to focus on the most difficult problems found on the ACT. This class is for ADVANCED math students who want to move quickly and address the more challenging math concepts found on the ACT. Cost is $35 for 1.5 hours.

Preparation and practice for the English section of the ACT. This is a 1.5 hour group session. Cost $35 per class.

These classes are similar to ACT English classes except they are smaller in size; the intensives will have a minimum of 2 and maximum of 4 students. Cost $50 per class.

Students will learn writing strategies and techniques that they can use to improve their writing scores on the ACT essay. This class provides an overview of the ACT writing exam and scoring rubric. Understanding expectations, idea development, word choice, sentence fluency, and time saving tips are some of the topics included in the class. This is a two hour class. Cost is $40.

Preparation and practice for the math section of the ACT. This is a 1.5 hour group session. Cost $35 per class.

Students will take a math section test from an actual ACT in a timed test environment. The test will be scored and students will provided their results. Teacher will review the problems and answers. This is a two hour session. Cost $35 per class.

Preparation and practice for the reading section of the ACT. This is a 1.5 hour group session. Cost $35 per class.

These classes cover the same material as our ACT Reading classes except they are smaller in size; it will have a minimum of 2 and maximum of 4 students. Cost $50 per class.

Students will take two timed practice tests: first the reading section of the ACT and then the English section of the ACT. The tests will be scored, and students will be given their results. Teacher will review the problems and answers. This is a 2.5 hour group session. Cost $35 per class.

Preparation and practice for the science section of the ACT. This is a 1.5 hour group session. Cost $35 per class.

These classes cover the same content as regular ACT Science classes except they are smaller in size; they will have a minimum of 2 and maximum of 4 students. Cost $50 per class.

Students will work through one ACT science section with guided instruction and then will take a timed practice test. The test will be scored and students will be given their results. Teacher will review the problems and answers. This is a 2 hour group session. Cost $35 per class.

Each month, Amy Parker will conduct an AP US History review session to keep students working toward the AP exam in May. Class is 2 hours; cost is $45.

A class to prepare 10th grade students for the testing process. This class focuses on all the component areas of the PSAT, including math and English, with a focus on the development of grammar skills essential to the test, and vocabulary development. Class sessions will focus on either math or English/reading, depending on the teacher. If you have a question as to a session's focus on a particular week, feel free to email us. This is a 1.5 hour group session. Cost $35 per class.

A class for 9th grade students to prepare them for the testing process. Class focuses on vocabulary development and core test-taking skills presented in a creative and affirming environment. This is a 1.5 hour group session. Cost $35 per class.

Preparation and practice for the math section of the SAT. This is a 1.5 hour group session. Cost $35 per class.

These classes cover the same material as the SAT Math classes except they are smaller in size; they wiill have a minimum of 2 and maximum of 4 students. Cost $50 per class.

A comprehensive developmental approach to attaining the skills necessary for successful performance on the SAT exams. Students will be taught the reading and writing concepts that compose the tests. This is a 1.5 hour group session. Cost $35 per class.

These classes cover the same material as the SAT Reading classes except they are smaller in size; they will have a minimum of 2 and maximum of 4 students. Cost $50 per class.

Terry Benson and Renee Bookout present this workshop to provide 8th grade-12th grade students and their parents with information about how to maximize their potential for the college admissions process. Information regarding high school course selection, ACT/SAT/PSAT/SATII scores, the admissions process, applications, high school resume, essays, interviews, scholarships, Bright Futures and financial aid are some of the topics included in this workshop. This is a 3 hour group workshop. Cost is $100. THIS SEMINAR WILL BE HELD AT THE GULF BREEZE RECREATION CENTER. This class is designed for students who struggle on the math portion of the ACT, both with concepts and timing. The class will cover the core mathematical concepts students must know to perform well and also will discuss strategies and timing. This is a three-hour workshop taught by Ms. Paedae.

This class is an opportunity for students to take a complete ACT in a timed, testing environment to determine areas of strength and weakness on the test. The test will be scored and students will receive a report of their results. Taking this test enables students to get a baseline reading on their skills without having to report the scores to colleges. It also provides an opportunity for students to gauge their progress in preparing for the ACT. We must have a minimum of 10 students in order to offer this practice test. This is a 3.5 hour group session. Cost $45.

Ms. Myers teaches English at Gulf Breeze High School. Ms. Myers tutors all levels of English and reading, including ACT/SAT/PSAT test prep.

Emma Vannorsdall is a biochemistry student from the University of Maine who is interested in becoming a teacher. Emma is here working from February through June. Please read her bio for her areas of tutoring in math, science and English, AP and Spanish.

This is a college counseling private session with Renee Bookout. Session will include review of student's high school progress and creation of a plan for school year/summers, discussion as to what student can do to make sure he/she is on the right track to maximize his/her potential, and an overview of college search/application process. Parent(s) welcome to attend with student. Ideal for students in 8th (end of year), 9th, 10th and 11th grade. Call Renee if you have any questions (932-2392). This AP World History Review will cover the DBQ and Long Essay Question.

This AP Calculus Review session will be without calculator.

This AP Calculus Review will be with calculator.

The AP Chemistry Review will cover both the multiple choice and free response portions of the exam and will specifically address valuable strategies for approaching each type of question in the new exam format (starting in 2014). Using actual questions from past exams, students will see how to break down the material and zero in on the important points to attack. By becoming familiar with the comprehensive nature of these types of questions, students will achieve confidence in their abilities to solve the problems. Approximately two hours will be spent on multiple choice, and two hours will be spent on free response. Extra materials will be handed out for at home practice. This review session will be held on April 27 from 9am-1pm.

This a complete review in preparation for the AP Human Geography Exam, covering Maps/Perspectives, Population/Migration, Cultural Patterns, Political Organization of Space, Agriculture, Industrialization, Economic Development, Urban Land Use and more.

AP Language and Composition Exam Review
Focus: Multiple Choice Questions
Students will review terms and learn strategies for decoding and answering questions as well as techniques for passage analysis on the Multiple Choice portion of the AP Language Exam. Students will work through at least one complete past test and will receive additional practice materials to use at home to prepare.

AP Literature Exam: Writing and Effective Free Response Essay for Question 3.
This session will focus on Question 3 and strategies for writing an essay on a selected book. Ms. Benson will review several appropriate novels the students have read this year and discuss how to adapt them to different questions from the exam. Students will read and analyze past high scoring papers on this question. They will also write part or all of a free response essay, depending on time constraints, and receive personal feedback on their writing from Ms. Benson.

AP Literature Comprehensive Exam Review
Students will read and analyze prose and poetry passages and multiple-choice questions based on those passages from actual AP Exams. Class will include discussion of strategies for reading and decoding questions, pacing for the test, and individual practice. Students will also work on effective strategies for writing essays for the AP Literature exam.

Cram review session for the AP Psychology Exam. We will cover the major theories, theorists/contributors, vocabulary and concepts to prepare for the exam. Exam prep materials will be provided, including a practice test, charts, graphs and digital resources such as PowerPoint presentations.
This is a three-hour complete review of AP World History in preparation for the AP Exam. This will cover periods 1-3. (Periods 4-6 will be covered May 11, 9am-12pm)

Intro to Human Geography provides a brief introduction to the concepts and topics of the AP Human Geography course. Topics include the following: Cartography, Populations, Migrations of people, political organizations, Agricultural land use and cultures. A brief overview of the exam will also be discussed, including proper preparation and study skills.

There are two sessions offered -- they are the same materials -- August 3rd or August 10th, 1pm-4pm. Cost is $60.

Intro to AP World History provides a brief introduction to the AP exam and content of the course. Historical thinking skills that are essential for success on the AP exam will be reviewed, as well as written components of the exam such as the Document Based Question and Short Answer Questions. Proper exam preparation and year-round study skills will also be discussed.

This class is offered August 11th from 2pm-5pm. Cost is $60.

Intro to Advanced Placement course will provide first time AP students with strategies and skills to be successful in AP courses throughout their high school career. Topics such as the importance of AP for college readiness, study skills, note taking, exam preparation, and student responsibility will be covered.

This course is offered August 4th from 2pm-4pm. The cost is $40.

Study Skills and Strategies is a class in which students will be taught skills to help them gain and use information effectively. Students will leave the class with data proven strategies to: improve retention and recall of information, maximize study time by practicing improved time management, and streamline resources with improved organizational approaches. Students will learn to self-monitor their study habits to discern the most effective strategies for their learning style. This course is taught by Ms. Mary Beth Hall. This class is $60.

Study Skills and Strategies is a class in which students will be taught skills to help them gain and use information effectively. Students will leave the class with data proven strategies to: improve retention and recall of information, maximize study time by practicing improved time management, and streamline resources with improved organizational approaches. Students will learn to self-monitor their study habits to discern the most effective strategies for their learning style. This course is taught by Ms. Mary Beth Hall. This class is $60.

This is a one-week Intensive Prep for the July 13 ACT. The session will cover all four subject areas: math, science, English and reading. The session will be held from 9am-12pm, Monday through Friday, July 8-12. Cost is $295.

ACT Prep Monday-Wednesday Workshop: Students will receive four hours of intense prep in each of the four sections of the ACT (English, math, science, reading) for a total of 16 hours of preparation. Classes are Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-8pm. Cost is $295.

Next session for June ACT test starts May 6 and runs May 6, 8, 13, 15, 20, 22, 27, and 29.

ACT Prep Tuesday-Thursday Workshop: Students will receive four hours of intense prep in each of the four sections of the ACT (English, math, science, reading) for a total of 16 hours of preparation. Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8pm. Cost is $295.

Current session for April ACT test is full.

Next session for June ACT test starts May 7 and runs May 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23, 28, and 30.

ACT Prep Two-Week Workshop: Students will receive four hours of intense prep in each of the four sections of the ACT (English, math, science, reading) for a total of 16 hours of preparation. Classes are Monday-Thursday from 6-8pm. Cost is $295.

Students choose one session:

Session 1: July 29, 30, 31, August 1, 5, 6, 7 and 8.

Session 2: August 26, 27, 28, 29, September 2, 3, 4 and 5.

A workshop for rising seniors only who are beginning the application process. Students will create a resume, write a college essay and learn tips and tricks for the college applications. Students will also receive an overview on college selection and the application process. Renee Bookout and Terry Benson will assist the students in finalizing their resume, brainstorming on their essay and writing a common/coalition application essay or school-specific essay. Students must bring a laptop computer to class. Cost $260. 

We are offering several sessions over the summer. Every year they fill up quickly. Students will attend one session:

Session 1: June 13, 14, 15, 17 and 18, 1pm-4pm (no class on June 16, Father's Day)

Session 2: June 24, 25, 26, 27, and 28, 3pm-6pm

Session 3: July 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19, 1pm-4pm

Session 4: August 3, 4, 10 and 11, 9am-12:30pm

Session 5: August 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9, 2:30pm-5:30pm

The Core Reading Concepts Workshop is designed for students who struggle with reading. The workshop will cover the core reading concepts students must know to perform well and will also discuss strategies and timing for the FSA. This is a two day, four-hour seminar taught by Mrs. Hall. Cost is $75.

End-of-Course Exam for Algebra I Workshop.This two-part class will review, and if necessary, teach all tested standards for the Alegbra I end-of-course (EOC) exam. The first day, Tuesday, will focus on non-calculator problems and the second day, Thursday, will focus on calculator-allowed problems. This comprehensive four-hour preparation should enable your child to have an informed understanding of what is expected of him/her on the test as well as of the concepts to be tested. Please bring a charged tabled or iPad if possible.

Fundamentals of Grammar for Testing for High School Students


This workshop will cover the fundamentals of grammar and writing. We will target the skills covered on standardized testing, including the SAT, PSAT, ACT, and FSA.

The high school session is July 22, 23, and 24 from 4pm-6pm. The cost is $100.

Fundamentals of Grammar for Testing for Middle School Students

This workshop will cover the fundamentals of grammar and writing. We will target the skills covered on standardized testing.

There are two sessions offered for middle school students. The first is July 8 and 9 from 1pm-4pm; the second is July 29 and 30 from 1pm-4pm. The cost is $100.

Have Fun With Middle School Math Workshop will provide instruction, games and activities focused on middle school math and extending the student’s understanding of key mathematical concepts. This is available for rising 6th through 8th graders. There are two sessions offered. Cost is $100.

Session 1: July 10 and 11, 1-4pm.

Session 2: July 31 and August 1, 1pm-4pm. 

This workshop is for high school students (rising 9th-12th graders) to work on creative writing skills, including poetry and short stories. Laptop suggested. This workshop will be held July 22, 23, 24 and 25 from 1pm-3pm. Cost is $135.

This workshop will teach high school students (grades rising 9-12) the fundamentals of academic research and writing. This class is particularly helpful for students enrolling in an AP Capstone course or who will be working on an extended essay at the IB Program. Laptops required. This workshop will be offered June 17, 18, 19 and 20 from 9am-12pm. Cost is $195.

The Intro to Geometry Workshop will focus on how the subject of geometry gives visual meaning to arithmetic and algebra. We will begin with the building blocks of geometry, then progress toward the necessary skills needed to be successful in this course. This is a three day workshop offered July 22, 23, and 24 from 9am-12pm. Cost is $150.

Students will learn strategies to improve their test-taking skills on the PSAT. Students will receive instruction in math, reading comprehension, and grammar concepts common to the test. This is an 16 hour group session. Cost $285.

All sessions will cover the same materials; students should only sign up for one session.

Session 1 will be June 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14, 4:30-7:30pm

Session 2 will be July 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19, 9am-12pm

Session 3 will be July 29, 30, 31 and August 1 and 2, 9am-12pm

This two-day workshop is offered for high school students who need additional help in reading strategies for the ACT and SAT. This workshop is designed to improve reading comprehension, fluency, focus and retention. Students will engage in text-based discussion and learn to decode questions, as well as how to eliminate responses. This workshop is taught by Mrs. Hall.

This workshop will provide 16 hours of instruction for the next SAT. The instruction will be divided evenly between the verbal and math sections of the test. The workshop will meet twice a week, on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 6 to 8, and continue up to the test. This class is highly recommended for those students preparing for the next SAT. This is an 16 hour group session. Cost $295.
