Class & Workshop Descriptions

Below is a description of the classes, seminars, workshops, and private tutoring offered.  To register, click on the “Register” button under the description or you can use our “Class Schedule” link above and select desired courses/dates. Check back regularly as we are always adding classes and workshops, especially for end-of-year exams, AP exams and summer offerings.

These classes are the same as our regular ACT Math classes except it is a much smaller class; it will have a minimum of 2 and maximum of 4 students. Cost $50 per class.

A specialized math class for students who want to focus on the most difficult problems found on the ACT. This class is for ADVANCED math students who want to move quickly and address the more challenging math concepts found on the ACT. Cost is $35 for 1.5 hours.

Preparation and practice for the English section of the ACT. This is a 1.5 hour group session. Cost $35 per class.

These classes are similar to ACT English classes except they are smaller in size; the intensives will have a minimum of 2 and maximum of 4 students. Cost $50 per class.

Preparation and practice for the math section of the ACT. This is a 1.5 hour group session. Cost $35 per class.

Students will take a math section test from an actual ACT in a timed test environment. The test will be scored and students will provided their results. Teacher will review the problems and answers. This is a two hour session. Cost $35 per class.

Preparation and practice for the reading section of the ACT. This is a 1.5 hour group session. Cost $35 per class.

These classes cover the same material as our ACT Reading classes except they are smaller in size; it will have a minimum of 2 and maximum of 4 students. Cost $50 per class.

Preparation and practice for the science section of the ACT. This is a 1.5 hour group session. Cost $35 per class.

These classes cover the same content as regular ACT Science classes except they are smaller in size; they will have a minimum of 2 and maximum of 4 students. Cost $50 per class.

Students will work through one ACT science section with guided instruction and then will take a timed practice test. The test will be scored and students will be given their results. Teacher will review the problems and answers. This is a 2 hour group session. Cost $35 per class.

A class for 9th grade students to prepare them for the testing process. Class focuses on vocabulary development and core test-taking skills presented in a creative and affirming environment. This is a 1.5 hour group session. Cost $35 per class.

This class focuses on PSAT math. This is a 1.5 hour group session. Cost $35 per class.

These classes cover the same content as PSAT Math classes except they are smaller in size; they have a minimum of 2 and maximum of 4 students.

This class focuses on PSAT reading. This is a 1.5 hour group session. Cost $35 per class.

A comprehensive developmental approach to attaining the skills necessary for successful performance on the SAT exams. Students will be taught the reading and writing concepts that compose the tests. This is a 1.5 hour group session. Cost $35 per class.

These classes cover the same material as the SAT Reading classes except they are smaller in size; they will have a minimum of 2 and maximum of 4 students. Cost $50 per class.

These classes cover the same material as the PSAT Reading classes except they are smaller in size; they will have a minim of 2 and maximum of 4 students.

Terry Benson and Renee Bookout present this workshop to provide 8th grade-12th grade students and their parents with information about how to maximize their potential for the college admissions process. Information regarding high school course selection, ACT/SAT/PSAT/SATII scores, the admissions process, applications, high school resume, essays, interviews, scholarships, Bright Futures and financial aid are some of the topics included in this workshop. This is a 3 hour group workshop. Cost is $100. THIS SEMINAR WILL BE HELD AT THE GULF BREEZE RECREATION CENTER. This class will be a three hour overview of the grammar rules and strategies utilized on the English section of the ACT. Students will also participate in teacher directed practice using actual ACT English sections from the tests.

An in-depth review of the math concepts and strategies essential for success on the ACT. Students will work through and score at least one ACT math section.

This class will focus on improving reading skills In areas covered in the reading portion of the ACT test. Students will learn to identify style, tone, organizational structure, and main purpose of ACT writing passages. Students will also practice pacing while working with actual ACT reading Passages.

Students will work through and discuss a series of science sections from an actual ACT. They will practice reading charts and graphs, as well as pacing on this section of the test. This class will provide a comprehensive review of the ACT science section.

This class is designed for students who struggle on the math portion of the ACT, both with concepts and timing. The class will cover the core mathematical concepts students must know to perform well and also will discuss strategies and timing. This is a three-hour workshop taught by Ms. Paedae.

This is a three hour ACT Mini Workshop to prepare middle school students applying for Duke TIP with an overview of the ACT test, covering all four sections, strategies and pacing. Students will receive practice materials. The cost is $60.

This is a three hour SAT Mini Workshop to prepare middle school students applying for Duke TIP with an overview of the SAT test, covering both sections, strategies and pacing. Students will receive practice materials. The cost is $60.

This class is an opportunity for students to take a complete ACT in a timed, testing environment to determine areas of strength and weakness on the test. The test will be scored and students will receive a report of their results. Taking this test enables students to get a baseline reading on their skills without having to report the scores to colleges. It also provides an opportunity for students to gauge their progress in preparing for the ACT. We must have a minimum of 10 students in order to offer this practice test. This is a 3.5 hour group session. Cost $45.

This class is an opportunity for students to take a complete PSAT in a timed, testing environment to determine areas of strength and weakness on the test. Susan Smart has over 25 years of teaching experience in the field of Language Arts/English. She works with various levels of students with a concentration in writing skills, grammar mastery, literature, and test taking strategies.

Tracy Brown tutors AP Human Geography and AP World History.

Clint Sutton can tutor AP Macro and AP Micro Economics, AP Government & Politics, and AP Human Geography.

This is a college counseling private session with Renee Bookout. Session will include review of student's high school progress and creation of a plan for school year/summers, discussion as to what student can do to make sure he/she is on the right track to maximize his/her potential, and an overview of college search/application process. Parent(s) welcome to attend with student. Ideal for students in 8th (end of year), 9th, 10th and 11th grade. Call Renee if you have any questions (932-2392). Mary Katherine Gottstine teaches Algebra I, Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus at Pensacola Catholic High School and is pursuing her Masters in Mathematics at the University of West Florida. She can tutor all levels of math and ACT/SAT/PSAT math.

Students will leave the class with data proven strategies to: improve retention and recall of information, maximize study time by practicing improved time management, and streamline resources with improved organizational approaches. Students will learn to self-monitor their study habits to discern the most effective strategies for their learning style. This course is taught by Ms. Mary Beth Hall. This class is $60.

ACT Prep Tuesday-Thursday Workshop: Students will receive four hours of intense prep in each of the four sections of the ACT (English, math, science, reading) for a total of 16 hours of preparation. Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8pm. Cost is $295.

Prep for the February 8 ACT begins January 7th and will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8pm. Workshop dates are as follows:

January 7, January 9, January 14, January 16, January 21, January 23, January 28, January 30.

OPTIONAL: Workshop attendees get a discount on the practice tests offered the following week. Workshop attendees can register (by phone only) for all three practice tests offered the following week (February 4, 5 and 6) for $75 total (a savings of $30).

This workshop is for seniors who are working on their supplemental essays for colleges. This is not a workshop for the main (common application/coalition application) essay. Students will work with Terry Benson and Renee Bookout. The workshop is two days for 3 hours each day. Cost is $200. (Check back in early summer for dates/times)

Resume and College Essay Workshop:

A workshop for seniors to prepare one complete edited essay for college applications. Students will also receive an overview on the college application process. This workshop will be taught by several teachers, including Renee Bookout, Terry Benson, Nikki Myers and Zach Gaidosh.

The teachers will review and edit the student's resume, brainstorm essay prompt, and review and edit student's essay. Students must bring a laptop computer to participate in this class. Enrolled students will be provided a resume template and must submit draft resume several days prior to first day of workshop. (Check back in early spring for dates/times)

This workshop will provide 16 hours of instruction for the next SAT. The instruction will be divided evenly between the verbal and math sections of the test. The workshop will meet twice a week, on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 6 to 8, and continue up to the test. This class is highly recommended for those students preparing for the next SAT. This is an 16 hour group session. Cost $295.
